Panagbenga 2009 blog “I’m really comfortable at 118,” said Gorres. “I had the upper hand in the fight because I could see his punches since he was not that quick.” After this fight, ALA Promotions is planning to let the 26-year-old Gorres campaign in the US. “We’re planning to send him there by June then I hope he can fight for a world title in the future,” said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer. Aldeguer said Gorres’ rank will improve in the WBO and they are looking for a rematch with Fernando Montiel, who has also moved up to 118 pounds at the end of the year or early next year. Meanwhile, Melindo proved that he was far from just a mere tune-up as he won by a unanimous decision against former IBF mini-flyweight king Muhammad Rachman. The 21-year-old Melindo used his speed and his array of punch combinations to earn the judges’ nod, 97-93, 98-92 and 96-94. Melindo improved his record to 18-0 with 5 KOs, while Rachman dropped to 62-7-5 with 31 KOs.
The ALA fighter admitted he had a hard time with the 37-year-old veteran fighter but he gave everything. “It was a hard fight but I gave my all in the last half of the fight. He said that it was a tune-up fight but I prepared hard for the fight,” said Melindo. Aldeguer believes that it was a good test and showed Melindo belongs with the elite fighters of the division. “We knew that Rachman was a hard fight for Milan. Rachman showed his experience when he pressured Milan. In the last three rounds Milan showed his heart and followed the game plan,” said Aldeguer.
